This multidisciplinary research project seeks to understand the practice of "tinkering" in the field of rehabilitation for patients with disordered states of consciousness after brain injury. Rehabilitation practitioners can face complex, unpredictable situations where formal protocols alone may be insufficient. Tinkering is a sophisticated mode of caring by practitioners that involves experimentation, adjustment, and attentive responsiveness.
